The earliest records date from the construction of the hermitic Gangtok monastery in 1716. Gangtok remained a small hamlet until the construction of the Enchey Monastery in 1840 made it a pilgrimage centre.

Gangtok comprises several popular attractions and enticing adventures and would require at least a 3-4 days tour to explore the majority of places.

There's a variety of stay options, from hotels and resorts to homestays, hostels, bread & breakfasts and guest houses. While Gangtok is expensive, other cities have more budget options. .

Darjeeling is renowned for its lush tea gardens, the majestic views of the Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain, and the historic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's also known for its rich cultural heritage and biodiversity.
